Training Classes
It’s the first step on the road to a career in refereeing – the classroom. The Association provides twelve-week New Entrants courses in January and August which give a rigorous run-through of the Laws of the Game. The team of instructors – Donnie Brooks, Charlie Smith, Michael Monaghan and Graham McNeillie – go through each of the laws through possible scenarios before an end-of-course exam which new entrants are required to pass to be able to officiate at youth games.
The training classes also provide up-and-coming referees wishing to progress higher in the game the chance to sit their Advanced Exam. An Advanced Examination Certificate is a pre-requisite for all members wishing to officiate in Junior and Senior football.
In recent years, in a bid to widen the recruitment net, the Association has also held successful New Entrants courses in secondary schools, something which will continue. And with recruitment levels rising, the Association is also keen to retain as many as these new members as possible, encouraging them to attend training and the monthly meetings.
This section will shortly feature training class material which will be posted to aid new members taking part in the New Entrants course.
Details of forthcoming courses and venues will appear in our News page. Alternatively, you can contact Secretary Gerry Durning via our Contact page.
