Social and Charity Events
During a long, hard season, our members like to unwind and let their hair down. And that’s where the wide range of social events, held throughout the season, come in.
Events held throughout the year include the traditional annual dance, which allows members to bring their partners along and enjoy a terrific evening’s entertainment. This year’s event, held at the Alea Casino in Glasgow, was a terrific success and the Association hopes for an even bigger success in 2011.
Other social events include the annual golf outing, organised by Robert Cruickshank, and the annual smoker, held in November, which features special guest speakers and our annual awards presentations. Awards are presented to the top-performing referee outwith the senior list and there’s also the special Tom Wharton bursary award which allows the winner to travel to America to referee at the Dallas Cup.
The Glasgow Referees’ Association also do tremendous work for charity. Our annual Charity Cycle raises money each year for a whole host of good causes. This year, members raised £1881 for the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice through the sponsored event, which saw them cycle 40 miles from the Glasgow Science Parks near Maryhill to the Falkirk Wheel.
Details of upcoming social and charity events will feature in our News section.
