SFA Grassroots Survey

The Scottish FA, through the Football Development Department, is launching an online Grassroots survey which is aimed at discovering just how attractive the game is to all participants across Scotland.

The survey is designed to capture the opinions of participants in all areas of football – from players young and old to referees, volunteers and coaches.

Six surveys are being launched in total, each targeted at a different group participating in grassroots football: club volunteers; coaches; parents; referees; both current and lapsed adult players; and young players.

Each of the surveys asks the same core questions but has additional questions tailored to the target audience, such as coaching qualifications or refereeing experience.

The data gathered in the survey will be used to help celebrate and accentuate the positives that emerge, while also identifying areas of concern within the game in order that they can be addressed.

The Scottish FA is committed to acting on the information gathered through the Grassroots Survey and will publish the results of the survey in autumn later this year.

The survey link for referees will be provided through the Referee Extranet. The link will be visible when the site is accessed.

As will be imagined, the more responses there are the better. Taking part in the survey is an ideal opportunity for the voice of referees to be heard.

Thanks for your assistance.

Regards,
Drew Herbertson

On behalf of the Management Committee and all members, I thank Bryan for his tremendous dedication and hard work over the years which have greatly benefitted the Association and enabled numerous members to develop successful referee and assistant referee careers. Fortunately, Bryan’s wealth of experience will not be lost to refereeing as he continues as a SFA Referee Observer. Having now no formal attachment with Glasgow RA, Bryan will now be able to observer Glasgow members – I look forward to marks soaring to record levels next season!

I am pleased to announce that the SFA Refcom have appointed Gerry Corrie to replace Bryan as Assistant Manager and also appointed Gerry to the list of SFA Referee Observers. I look forward to working with Gerry to continue to protect and promote the interests of all members ensuring all members are given every opportunity to develop their abilities and maximise their potential.

Wishing you an enjoyable close season.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING – Reminder

The Annual General Meeting of the Association will be held at 7.30 pm on Thursday 12th April 2018 in the Auditorium at Hampden Park. Membership Fees are due to be paid prior to the AGM, alternatively if you are attending you can pay on the night.

Regional Training Day 2018
The first Regional Training Day of 2018 is being held in the Oriam and Heriot Watt University on Sunday 20th May and is open to Categories 4, 4dev, 5, 6 and 7.
Last years events (May and November) were very successful in terms of attendance and feedback was positive. Once again there will be some practical outdoor demonstrations to enhance your decision making. It would be helpful if you would bring along flags, cards and a whistle. Where possible football boots are the preferred attire for the practical sessions. The content of the course will be varied, incorporating all aspects of refereeing with advice of the highest quality.
The day will begin at 10 am and should conclude around 3.30.
In order to reserve a place at the RTD you should contact the Association Manager, Alan Cunningham by email.

London Marathon 2018
The following message is being sent on behalf of Management Committee members, David Munro;
As some of you may be aware, I am taking part in the London Marathon on Sunday 22nd April. My training is going well and my distance is up to 20 miles!!

I will be running in aid of Marie Curie who care for people and their families who have been diagnosed with terminal illness. The charity is a cause close to my heart and I have first-hand experience of the help that they provide families whose loved ones have been diagnosed with a terminal illness.

It would be great to get as much support and sponsorship as possible to support the magnificent work that this charity does. For every £1 that Marie Curie raise, 75p goes towards delivering, and improving, the care and support they offer. The other 25p goes towards generating future income. In 2016/17, they spent £149.5 million on our crucial caring services, research into terminal illness, and campaigning for better end of life care, as well as spending funds on improving awareness of our charity and generating future income.

I have set up a justgiving page at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/davidmunrolm18. Any online donations would be greatly appreciated for such a great cause.

Thank you all in advance for your support. David
