You will get full details from the Coaches on the first night
but basically the course is split into three sections.
PART 1, from weeks 1 to 8 is taken up with getting a working knowledge of the rule book, FIFA's
Laws of the Game. You will only be expected to know enough to allow you to get you through your first
few seasons and you will be tested with a short written exam on week 8.
PART 2, weeks 9-10 will concentrate on showing you some real life match situations with the target of giving
you an understanding of the following areas: Fouls & Misconduct, Offside and Free Kicks. You will
be given a short oral test at the end of this section and if successful, you will move to part 3
PART 3, successfully referee 3 games being observed by your mentor. When all 3 parts are successfully completed you will have passed all the
tests to be a Probationary Referee.
Advanced Examination
An advanced class is held by the association in conjunction with new entrant's classes in January and
September each year. Refs must have held their entrance examination certificate for at least a year by
the date of the examination before sitting the advanced exam.
The advanced certificate is a pre-requisite for Refs wishing to officiate in
Junior and Senior football. You should note the format of
the Adavanced Exam is currently under review. Details will
be posted here when they become available.
